We booked an afternoon with Ray for part of a stag weekend, and got to start some fires and build some shelters, with burgers sausages and marshmallows thrown in too for good measure! Ray was a fantastic host, clearly knowledgeable and both highly engaging & entertaining.

Would highly recommend for any looking to do similar, and now look forward to trying some of the other courses!

What a pleasure to work with Ray and Back to Wilderness, our school moto is, An Adventure in Education, and Ray certainly delivered it! Two days of intensive bushcraft activities, giving the children a real taste of wilderness living. It left the children wanting more, and courses are already being booked for after Christmas, brilliant, inspirational and eye opening. Thank you.

Excellent morning delivered by Ray at Banham Primary, with an interactive presentation and talk about his Amazon experience to our Y4s, before firelighting, looking at hammocks and equipment, before eating heart of palm and insects! A+!

My son and I have done several events run by Ray, his junior explorer course was great fun. My son really enjoyed the course. It was informative and really fun.

More recently Ray ran an activity day for us for our Cub Scout pack. All the cub scouts thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was proper hands on scouting. There was some fire starting activities, knife work etc, but the most interesting and educational was the prepping of the rabbits for the evening’s dinner. This is such a valuable skill for the kids to understand where their food comes from and how it’s prepared. Ray kept the children entertained. He was patient, kind and informative. I would highly recommend this for any group.

    “Dear Ray
We had a fantastic day and I am sure that we will reap the benefits of the time we spent together as we head into this very busy term. You were great with all of us – so knowledgeable, patient, good humoured and I felt you fully understood what we needed to get from the day. Framlingham College will definitely be coming back for more – a huge thank you.

We had the best time at thetford forest on our private family back to the wilderness day with Ray! He was amazing and taught us, including our two sons loads of incredible outdoor survival skills!! The time flew by and the boys can now light a fire, build a shelter and make the damper bread!!! I couldn’t recommend it more highly!!! Thank you again, the Grimwood’s

Ray was amazing before during and after our event. Very welcoming (and tolerant!) knowledgeable and keen for us all to achieve. He introduced some level of competition, which was useful and the tea and coffee was available all day. A great day was had by the whole team …… even those who ‘dont really do outdoors stuff’!!

I emailed Ray to ask if he could make a wild idea of mine, come to life… and he did. I gave him the story that my class were studying and he came up with an itinerary for the whole day. Ray is extremely knowledgeable and the children responded well to him. They loved it so much that they have made adverts for him and the day that they had. It was fabulous to get out of the classroom and get ‘back to wilderness’.

Wholesome fun for the family – can’t wait to go back!

A big gulp of fresh air and came away with a feeling of acomplishment – lighting fires, building shelters and of course toasting marshmallows! We all loved it and was a super wholesome activity for our children. Ray is super nice and knowledgable; his enthusiasm is contagious! We’re definetely looking to come back as soon as we can. Highly recommended. Thank you Ray.

A great experience for young and old(er) alike

We had a lovely morning with Ray learning how to start fire and keep it going, den building and making our own damper bread (to cook on our own fire of course).

Ray is an amazing instructor, full of knowledge about the great outdoors (and how to stay alive in it). He was fun, friendly, informative and easily engaged all of us aged from 6 to 73.

Ray came onsite to our school – which was so exciting after the year we have had. We had requested a bespoke survival skills day which linked to our book Pax – and were especially impressed that not only had Ray read the book but took the time to link the day to various aspects of the characters in the book too. We spent the day learning and exploring our school grounds, Ray’s patient and engaging lessons gave the children a renewed appreciation for the nature that surrounded them everyday. We learnt how to forage; navigate; build a tarp shelter; fire starting and water purification. Ray has a huge depth of knowledge and a patient and engaging manner who obviously lives and breathes the wilderness lessons he shares. My Class of 30 9-10 year olds loved their day with him and comes highly recommend.

We are from a residential school for young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties. We booked weekly sessions with ‘Back To Wilderness’ over a six month period. From the very first session, it was obvious that Ray is the most knowledgeable and well organised expert in his field. Every session was meticulously planned down to the finest detail and executed skilfully at all times, engaging everyone who attended. Ray’s manner with the young people who attended was pitched perfectly and his behaviour management of the group ensured that safety was maintained at all times, whist valuable learning was taking place. Ray is personable, professional and makes every session enjoyable for all. I would highly recommend ‘Back To Wilderness’ to anyone seeking the ultimate Bush Craft and Survival Skills experience.

The whole of our experience with Ray and his team was more than brilliant. The professional friendly helpful delivery of a whole week at our school for nursery to year six was second to none . From the first enquiry Ray was so efficient and organised from timetabling to National Curriculum links to equipment and Health and Safety ,he had it sorted. The learning and above all enjoyment of all the children was amazing! Thank you all so much for an unforgettable week,

    Jane

The Back to Wildness team hosted a team building afternoon for my team and I at a company away day. Ray was absolutely awesome – he liaised with the venue beforehand to provide his insurance details and reassurance on the contents of the afternoon, he expertly managed the afternoon itself – tailoring the energy and pace to match the group and kept the tone fun. The group (18 software developers) walked away with a bunch of new skills and experiences and all had positive feedback. I would highly recommend Ray and the Back to Wildness team if you are looking for a team building / learning experience for your team.

A bespoke workshop delivered with exceptional professionalism
Ray and his team were exceptionally professional and well-organised. They led a Bat-box building workshop for a local community group which ran over several hours. Many of those on the course had never used some of the tools provided and Ray was attentive and patient. At the end of the day we had some fantastic feedback and I would highly recommend Ray if you are looking for someone to deliver a practical activity who is hugely knowledgeable and offers this at a very competitive price.

Fabulous day with safety at the heart
It was very relaxed allowing all of us to go at our own pace. Ray was very encouraging, passing on the skills needed at the appropriate time. Amazingly we all produced spoons having learned new techniques and increased our knowledge of various woods. I would love to do it again.Thank you 🙂

    Best works team building experience
A truly great evening out, we had so much fun. Ray and Matt were professional and patient. They shared their knowledge and experience, explaining everything in relatable terms. They really know their stuff and we learnt so much. I will definitely be going back for another go.

    Pegasus Team Building
Our first experience of Back to Wilderness and it was excellent. Ray & Matt were so patient with us, explaining everything as we were trying to hit the target. Would definitely recommend them for any groups as we all had a brilliant time.

    Knife & Axe throwing
Had a thoroughly enjoyable session throwing axes and knives. Ray and his team were fantastic at offering support and guidance to throw better. I didn’t find it easy, compared to the rest of the group, but I loved trying and was thrilled when I did hit the target. Definitely something I will try to do again, bringing the family next time. Thank you.

    Knife and Axe throwing
A fantastic evening organised by Back to Wilderness for our group of 20. Clear and concise safety instructions were given in a very professional manner. Plenty of opportunity for all to have a go with each piece of equipment and all were given individual help from Ray & Matt to hit the target. It was a fun and interesting evening that all participants gained from. Great value for money!!!
