My boys (45 and 10) have just staggered in from a day in the forest learning about fire and water. They are shattered but jubilant! Had a fabulous time and learnt loads. Already talking about their next course. Great bonding experience. Thanks, Ray,

Just spent a fantastic day at Brandon Country Park, with Back to Wilderness. Went with hopeful high expectations for the Fire and Water course that were far exceeded. Learned so much about creating fires as well as wood cutting and natural cordage. Our instructor Ray, was knowledgeable and relaxed and course was brilliantly organised, but most of all amazing fun. Looking forward to our next Back to Wilderness experience.

Last Tuesday (16Th) I attended the Fire & Water course run by Ray. My feedback is below.

    1. Booking & Joining Instructions
The course was easy to find online and the website very straightforward to use. I had originally booked a different course but Ray was quick to explain that there were insufficient numbers. Consequently I was offered the Fire & Water course instead. Joining instructions were timely, clear and thorough.

    2. The day itself
Ray explained his background and experience well and made it clear what we would be doing. Rather than directly telling us everything we needed to know e.g. different ways to start a fire, Ray asked us to try and work things out ourselves. Only when we had “dried up” did he tell us what we needed to know and all instructions were clear, detailed, concise and at the right pace for the group. There was plenty of hands on ((literally with the stinging nettles!) practice with excellent guidance from Ray.

The highlight was being able to start a fire using the drill method; I have seen this done on the TV and it’s always made clear that it can be difficult and take quite a while. With Ray’s guidance all of us were successful in creating fire using this method. I was really pleased at my success and may well practice in my back garden!!

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. I will definitely be looking to book further courses. Extremely informative.

    Ten out of ten!!

    Thanks

    Paul

My daughter and I had a great day at High Lodge learning about fire making and water purification. Ray is very knowledgeable and great at providing an interactive day with lots of help when necessary. The highlight of the day has to be when we made fire using a bow and drill! Highly recommended!
