Myself and my son have been visiting Ray at back to wilderness for two years now. Its genuinely the highlight of our month and have learnt an incredible amount. Ray is a brilliant instructor and I cannot think of anyone better to run these courses.

Another brilliant session with Ray. My son and I have spent two years with Ray from Back To Wilderness on The Junior Explorers Club and have thoroughly enjoyed every session, we had missed the spoon carving session of the explorers club so it was great to catch up with Ray and some of the others who had been on the same course and meet new people. With a teacher like Ray, with his in depth knowledge, the way he teaches you to do it well and safely, in such a friendly atmosphere you can’t help but enjoy yourself, and you end up completely absorbed in the carving of your spoon.

My husband and I attended a wood carving course with Back to Wilderness in High Lodge Thetford Forest yesterday. We absolutely loved our day in the forest. The course itself was relaxed and very informative, also a huge amount of fun. Our instructor Ray was fantastic! He made our day really great and we learned a lot from it. We recommend the course to everyone who has an interest in Bushcraft and we look forward coming back soon! Thank you Ray!

We had a great time spoon carving with Ray in Thetford Forest. The day was well structured with progressive techniques taught at a good pace and clearly explained. Ray is a great instructor and we throughly enjoyed our day out.
Looking forward to exploring his other courses in the future.

Ray’s calm, easy going nature coupled with vast knowledge & being able to read his students means you gain knowledge without feeling you are being lectured. An excellent communicator, he reinforces, whilst explaining why and yet remains open to other ways & views. He doesn’t talk down but simply chats to you. It’s an effortless way to acquire knowledge. His camp was well founded & he had kit for all eventualities. I’ll be suggesting to my work colleagues we have Ray runs some team building event. The flexibility he offer to be able to tailor days to what you want is fantastic. I can’t recommend Ray highly enough. My son & i had a great day. Thanks Ray !

Fabulous day with safety at the heart
It was very relaxed allowing all of us to go at our own pace. Ray was very encouraging, passing on the skills needed at the appropriate time. Amazingly we all produced spoons having learned new techniques and increased our knowledge of various woods. I would love to do it again.Thank you 🙂
