The Aim of this Level 1 course is to introduce you to the skills needed to survive and thrive in the wilderness and woodlands.  This is a one night course and is designed for under 18s.  It incorporates the entire Scout’s Survival Skills Badge.

Learners will gain a good understanding of the fundamental skills, required to help them survive in the wilderness.

High Lodge – Site Entry Fee – Applies per vehicle, this will be reimbursed as a free return visit – Not applicable for discover pass holders

This course is an NCFE CQ Qualification.

Back To Wilderness provides this course under licence from Survival School, NCFE Centre 001135

From 1st August 2022, all certification will be in the form of eCertificates.

This following subjects will be covered across a weekend with an overnight stay.

  • Ethos of Survival & Bushcraft
  • Safe use of cutting tools
  • Shelter Building
  • Fire Lighting
  • Water Preparation
  • Damper Bread
  • Foraging
  • First Aid & Rescue

This course is a hands on course, primarily intended for Schools, Youth Groups, Scouts & Cadets but anyone interested can give us a call to discuss. The dates, as well as start & finish times can be tailored to your needs, as required.

  • Large groups catered for
  • Ages 12 & over welcome (an accompanying paying adult may be required)

    As an outdoor leader, I am always looking for innovative ideas to complement our existing Outdoor Education programme. Combining the Survival School Level 1 course with our existing modules has enabled us to deliver a comprehensive curriculum to our children. Ray is both hugely knowledgeable and flexible when covering the modules which makes us book the course on a yearly basis. The children are now well prepared for the Level 2 next year.
